La Jolla High School volleyball star Madeleine Gates, class of 2016, won the 2019 Women’s volleyball championship for Stanford University. After graduating from UCLA in 3 years, Gates applied and was admitted to the Stanford gradate school for Economics. In the NCAA championship game, Gates had 10 kills with a .529 hitting percentage. The girls volleyball program is having a strong start to their 2018 season. The varsity team has had good wins against, OLP, La Jolla Country Day, Poway and Point Loma High school. The JV and freshmen teams are undefeated as well.
La Jolla announced the hiring of Kelly Drobeck as the Vikings girls head volleyball coach. Drobeck, a San Diego native, lead Cathedral’s volleyball girls program for over 17 years.
